About

My name is Steve Godwin and Iive in Calhoun, Ga.  I was born on June 18, 1956, and was raised in a small South Georgia community called Attapulgus, Georgia.  Both my parents were God-fearing Christians. I was what you might call a “druggie”.  I was drug to church every time the doors were open.   Even though I went to church all the time, I was not interested in God. I thought there were better things in life for me.

My wife, Nancy, and I have been married for 14 years. We met in Mexico Beach, Fl. in 2003.  I was not a Christian when we got married. We have 3 boys who are all married,  3 grandchildren, 2 girls, and a boy.   In 2018 things changed.  Nancy and I were involved in an automobile accident on Interstate 75. The injuries I received had me life-flighted to Erlanger  Medical Center-trauma in Chattanooga. While being life-flighted, I went into cardiac arrest and was placed on a ventilator.   From Erlanger, I was transferred to The Shepard Center in Atlanta.  I stayed there for 2 months.  I got out on May 2, 2018, had bypass heart surgery on June 4, 2018, and came home on June 15.  Man how my life had changed.  I don’t remember what day it was, but sometime in March 2018, when I finally regained consciousness, Nancy explained what had happened to us.  I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Since being saved, God has guided and directed me in several different areas. Reading and studying the Bible is the best thing that has happened to me.  Studying  God’s word is the best and most productive thing I have done.  The Bible is the way to communicate with God.

We joined Heritage Baptist Church in 2018 and have been working and growing ever since. I answered the call to preach in May of 2022, after running from it for over a year.  God is challenging Nancy and me often and so far we are fulfilling our duties. Being around people of faith and given the opportunities to spread God’s word is what we are all called to do. There is no better feeling in this world than telling someone about Jesus.
