About
My name is Jacob Colby. I am a husband, a father, and a follower of Christ. In August of 2012, at the age of 22, the Lord saved me. I currently serve as an Associate Pastor at New Life Baptist Church in Harvest, Alabama.
My journey in evangelism began in 2021, initially through ministry at abortion clinics. When the clinics closed in Alabama, I began regularly handing out gospel tracts. God gave me a strong desire to preach in the open air, and He graciously surrounded me with experienced open-air preachers in the North Alabama area. In December 2021, I preached in the open air for the first time.
My first experience with Sports Fan Outreach International (SFOI) was at the 2023 Kentucky Derby. That event had a profound impact on me. Laboring alongside full-time evangelists who had decades of faithful ministry opened my eyes to the depth and seriousness of the calling. Around that time, I believe the Lord called me into ministry. While I had achieved many of my professional goals and was blessed in my career, my desire for full-time ministry quickly grew into a consuming passion. My desire to build up the local body of believers and reach the lost in my community soon took precedent over my desire to excel professionally.
Since that Kentucky Derby outreach, I’ve been regularly preaching in the open air. I have been to several SFOI events since then. In October 2024, I was ordained as an elder at my church, and six months later, I was brought on part-time as an Associate Pastor. I’m currently enrolled at Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary, with the hope—Lord willing—of serving in full-time ministry.
God has answered prayer in raising up more men in our church to engage in consistent, biblical evangelism. I’m deeply thankful to be part of New Life Baptist Church, where both the elders and the congregation have shown strong support for evangelism. Our senior pastor regularly joins me in open-air preaching, and we’ve seen firsthand that when church leaders take the initiative, others are encouraged to follow. That’s exactly how it should be!
The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful wife who supports me in ministry. We have two boys and enjoy evangelizing as a family regularly as well.
Solo Deo Gloria!
